On the first anniversary of the World Trade Centre attack, The Community Channel broadcast a memorial to all the victims. Using a custom-written computer program, the names of each of the victims in turn was displayed on screen from 8am to 8pm. A text file of the victims names, ages and occupations was read by the program and each entry was timed to appear for ten seconds, then fade to the next. This fully automated approach meant that no operator had to run the system manually. For safety, as it was running live, two computers ran simultaneously, one as backup, but it was never needed as the first computer ran with no errors for the whole day.
